Who we are
The Khodorkovsky Foundation is a UK registered charity whose establishment was inspired by the Russian business leader, public figure and philanthropist, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, in 2003.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky was instrumental in the endowment of the Foundation with USD 500m. Our Foundation is one of the UK’s largest charitable organizations, focused on advancing education in Russia and supporting the long-term development of a strong, vibrant and dynamic civil society.
Our Mission
Our mission is to give young generations of ordinary Russians the educational opportunities, skills and support needed to build and participate in a strong, vibrant and dynamic civil society in Russia.
As we adapt and innovate in the face of new challenges, The Khodorkovsky Foundation maintains an unwavering commitment to a better future for Russia and its people.
The Khodorkovsky Foundation provides support to academic institutions, Civil Society organizations and documentaries of educational value that tell stories relevant to Russia.

Our Past Pojects
Prior to being designated an “undesirable organization” by the Russian Government in July 2021, the Foundation supported the Podmoskovny Lyceum, a boarding school for socially deprived children situated outside of Moscow, and the Oxford Russia Fund.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky
Mikhail Khodorkovsky, after whom the Charity is named, is an exiled Russian businessman and a prominent dissident. He is a former Yukos’ CEO and shareholder, a founder of the Open Russia movement, a member of the Anti-War Committee of Russia and an Amnesty prisoner of conscience.
